The Minn-Kota Region of the American Red Cross plays a key role in blood services across northwestern Minnesota. A group of dedicated volunteers transport blood and medical items daily between Lake Region Hospital and surround rural clinics in the area.
This group transported an average of 2,256 blood and medical items each month and log over 76,000 miles throughout the year. Recently the Red Cross held a ‘thank you’ luncheon for these drivers and their dedication throughout Otter Tail County and beyond.
“We certainly could not provide this critical service without these volunteers,” said Regional COO Sandy Glas. “Rural clinics rely on the blood and medical items they deliver on a daily basis.”
Over 1,880 units of lifesaving blood were collected at 33 blood drives throughout Otter Tail County this past year, including communities in Fergus Falls, Pelican Rapids, Henning, and Parkers Prairie.
